ROMAN BRITAIN

Seeing Roman Britain. By Leonard Cottrell. Evans. Leonard Cottrell has a gift for bringing the ancient past back vivid life. As a writer and producer for the British Broadcasting Corporation for many years, Mr Cottrell was able to travel widely. From his earlier travels he produced, besides features and documentaries for the 8.8. C, three books on archeological subjects. These are now well-known books about Egypt and . the Eastern Mediterranean. With equal facility and effect, Mr Cottrell now turns to his homeland.

In what is primarily a personal account of travels in search of Roman Britain, Mr Cottrell acts as a guide to others who would follow in his footsteps. Many persons will surely be inspired to do so by the descriptions and evocations of the past that flow from Mr Cottrell’s pen. In a literary style that is devoid of distracting flourishes, Mr Cottrell brings Roman Britain alive for the layman, but with a degree of authority that will not be despised by the scholar. The book is excellently illustrated and produced. and it contains, besides Mr Cottrell’s descriptions, a wealth of information about Roman Britain in the form of chronological tables, maps and indexes.
