Royal Standard Forgotten
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, April 26. There were red faces at Badminton House and Buckingham Palace yesterday. Someone forgot about the Royal Standard. It should have been sent to the Duke of Beaufort for use while the Queen is his guest -during the Badminton horse trials. Instead, the much-embarrassed Duke had to watch his own flag fluttering in the breeze at the opening of the three-day trials. Buckingham Palace was telephoned immediately the omission was discovered. The Queen's personal flag was put aboard an express train to Chippenham. Wiltshire.
When the Queen and the Duke of Beaufort toured the show rings after lunch the Royal Standard was flying. A Buckingham Palace spokesman was discreet on who had/forgotten to send it. “A lot of people are involved in getting those sort of things done,” he said.
