RAIL CAR JUMPS RAILS
Second Accident In Fortnight
(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN. April 26.
A Central Otago rail-car jumped the rails for the second time in two weeks about 8 a.m. today. No-one was injured, and the railcar was undamaged. As in the first accident—on April 16—the rail-car was travelling from Cromwell to Dunedin atjthe time of derailment. The derailment occurred as the rail-car, with more than 20 passengers aboard, was going slowly up a steep grade near Auripo, 109 miles from Dunedin. The two leading wheels of the rear bogie left the rails. Replaced on the rails at 11 a.m., the rail-car—after an inspection—carried on to Dunedin. It was examined in more detail after its arrival in the city at 3.30 p.m. The machine could not be faulted, and it was used this evening for the scheduled return trip to Cromwell.
Railway engineers who were sent to the scene of the accident are investigating.
