Mr P. W. Smaltfield, Director of the Extension Division of the Department of Agriculture, has been appointed to the newly, created position of Assistant-Director-General in the department. Mr Smallfield, who Is 59, joined the department in 1921. The three top positions in the department are now held by Mr E. J. Fawcett, Director-General, Mr R. B. Tennent, Deputy-Direc-tor-General, and Mr Smallfield.— Mr W. R. Campbell was reelected chairman of the Christchurch Fire Board at the annual meeting of the board on Wednesday evening. Messrs A. B. E. Turner, W. E. Olds, and N. R. Forbes were elected, with Mr Campbell, as the executive. Mr G. G. Chisholm, of Timaru, has been appointed a Justice of the Peace.—(F.O.O.R.)
