TROTTING Super Royal Favourite For Main Forbury Race

Super Royal, which will be bracketed with Derive, will be a short-priced favourite for the £lOOO Winter Handicap, the main race and first leg of the double on the opening day of the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s winter meeting tomorrow.

Super Royal raced well at the \ recent Addington meeting for J three placings from four starts. f She was runner-up to Derive on i the first day of the meeting, fifth s in a free-for-all on the second day, and last Saturday she was a fair j third in the Easter Cup, and ; fourth in the Au Revoir Handicap. < While she can handle soft tracks, « she races best when the going is « firm. If she has conditions to her liking, she should go close to win-J ning tomorrow, as she looks ] handily placed on 12 yards. « Derive must be respected. He < won most impressively over a 5 sprint distance on the first day of 1 the meeting, and last week in a ] sprint, he was narrowly beaten ] into third place after forcing much of the pace. The longer dis- , tance in this race should suit him j admirably and it will not surprise ; if both he and Super Royal are placed. < Dresden Lady will be meeting sterner opposition than when she won the Autumn Stakes last week, but this should not prevent ■ her making a bold showing as she is a fit mare at present. The Light Brigade mare was far from disgraced when third to Lookaway and Marshall Foi in the two-mile i Williams Handicap on the second day of the meeting and if she races up to that effort, she will be one of the hardest to beat. Don Hall must be close to win- , ning from now. He has raced prominently in his three starts this season, his fifth in the Easter Cup last week being a useful effort. The Whipster five-year-old is at home on all types of tracks and with a reasonable run, he could take a prominent part in the finish. Narrowly Beaten Light Nurse will be among the favourites for the race after her narrow defeat at, the hands of Danniel’s Pride in the Easter Cup last Saturday. Her placing was full of merit as she was towards the rear of the field most of the way. She strys strongly and will only need a little luck to return a dividend. Marshall Foi has not raced since he was runner-up to Lookaway in the Williams Handicap on the second day of the recent Addington meeting. The Dillon Hall gelding has plenty of ability and if he races generously; he could surprise. La Mignon, which will be bracketed with Highland Air, Invicta, Lady Shona, and Stadium Chief are others expected to race well in an open race, but they may find their match in Super Royal, Dresden Lady, and Don Hall, which are expected to fight out the finish. Gentry, which looked desperately unlucky to finish no closer than third in the New Zealand Pacing Stakes on the second day at Addington, should make amends for that defeat in the Beach Handicap, the second leg of the double. The Gore-owned and trained three-year-old is in great order at present and with a reasonable run, he should win. Auditor paced a useful race for fifth in the Autumn Stakes last week and he will be meeting a weaker field at Forbury Park. The halfbrother to Starbeam is a highly-p o romising pacer and he should give a good accouht of himself. Achates, which has had three wins in his last four starts, is certain to be solidly supported. The Light Brigade—Admiration three-year-old seldom paces a bad race and he should be hard to beat. Rey Derby showed up for a time in the Autumn Stakes last week at Addington, but he dropped out in the straight. Given firmer track conditions tomorrow, he could be bard to beat. His previous form had been of a high standard. Aksarben, Golden Hero, Dismiss and Next Time are others expected to race prominently. Due For Win Parable may end an exasperating run of placings with a win in the St. Clair Handicap. The Dillon Hall gelding was runner-up to Phantasy at Addington last week and recorded his third placing at the meeting. Parable looks well placed on the front mark and he is certain to be a firm favourite for the race.

Responsive, a winner at Methven last month, paced useful races in her two appearances at Addington. The Attack mare stays strongly and if she does not lose too much ground at the start, she should be close up. Blue Jay is another capable pacer. However, she is most unreliable. If she begins well, she will be the one to beat. She was runner-up to Dignus on the first day of the recent Addington meeting.

Upward, which has been placed in his two most recent starts, Air Command and Stylish George should do best of the remainder. Medetta, a winner at Hutt Park early last month, is selected to

win the Dunedin Handicap. The J Medoro gelding has more ability r than most in the race and a bright 1 future is predicted for him. He looks well placed on 24 yards and should be prominent. Willowdale, a member of N. L. Berkett’s team, is another speedy trotter. If he is allowed to make his own rules in front, he will be difficult to catch. He has not raced since he gained a very easy win at New Brighton in February. Stylish Trotter Native Cord resumed racing at Methven last month, and, after showing speed in the middle stages of the race, he drifted to eighth. The Ripcord four-year-old has a grand style of trotting and he should give a good account of himself. Gay Tune, which has been placed in her last two starts, Shiann, Supervise, and Sandy Rose should also race well. Indianna will probably be favourite for the Bayfield Handicap, the other race on the card for trotters. She has had a win and three placings in her last four starts and she looks ready to extend her record at short notice. Crisette, which showed good form on the West Coast in December and January, Kilmartin, Garadale, Mercury Light and Sure Maggie are also capable of surprising. Stewart, has had a change of stable. He is now being prepared by M. Holmes, and this will mean that-he will be bracketed on the totalisator with Super Royal in the Winter Handicap and Flying Handicap on Saturday.—(P.A.)
