MAYFLOWER II ON NEW COURSE
(Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, April 25. The captain of the Mayflower n, Alan Villiers, has abandoned his plan to sail the direct route to. Massachussetts and has changed course south for the Azores to catch the trade winds, the "News Chronicle” reported today. This is the course Columbus sailed.. The southerly route—made necessary by the light breezes in the Atlantic—means that the Mayflower II will probably take about 55 days for the voyage instead of the scheduled 35 to 40. Last night the ship was more than 270 miles south-west of Land's End, making six knots in fine weather.
