TRANS ISLAND AIRWAYS
Withdrawal Rumour Denied A suggestion in aviation circles that Trans Island Airways, a private airline, would withdraw its proposal to fiy a Beechcraft passenger plane through Timaru from Oamaru and Christchurch in the face of the NatiQaaL.Airways Corporation’s competition on the Timaru route is unfounded. The secretary of Trans Island Airways (Mr K. T. Cusack) said yesterday that the Beechcraft service would probably start about the middle of next month. “We are definitely not pullihg out.” he said. Mr Cusack said the service would not be started until the Civil Aviation Administration had given the Beechcraft a complete clearance to fly in all types of weather. It was almost ready for visual passenger flying but the company wished to have it certified for all-weather instrument flying so it would not have to interrupt schedules because of bad conditions The company plans to fly an Oamaru - Timaru - ChristchurchRongotai (Wellington) service on Tuesdays and Thursdays of each week and return when the administration grants a certificate. On Mondays. Wednesdays and Fridays the seven-seater plane will fly to Nelson and back through Christchurch. Timaru and Oamaru instead of Wellington.
