STEEPLES AT RIVERTON
Two Horses In Finish (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, April 33. The Autumn Steeplechase on the last day of the Riverton Racing Club’s meeting today was a farcical affair. Of the six runners, Lawrence and Haughty Step, which finished first and second, were the only two to get through without making a mistake. Superdowa, which came in four and a half minutes later for third, dropped his rider twice during the running. Bridgewater, which lost his rider at the third last fence, was remounted, but he dropped his rider just as quickly at the second to last fence. The hot favourite, Miss Step, came down at the first fence and th 6 second favourite. Chief Light, fell at the sod wall and injured a shoulder when handily placed with seven furlongs to run. After overnight rain the track was heavy. The weather was overcast with light rain during the day. There was a fair, attendance. The winning doubles combination of Nairnbridge and Pot Luck returned £BB Us for £l. The totalisator handled £42,297, compared with £53,308 10s on the third day last year.
