Overseas Reserves Increase Sharply
New Zealand's overseas reserves rose nearly £3m in the week ended April 3, according to preliminary figures issued by the Reserve Bank. At £ 92.2 m, overseas assets of the New Zealand banking system, less overseas liabilities, on that date were nearly £7m above the level of a year ago, but still some £2m below the comparable 1955 figure. . Bank overdrafts expanded sharply—from £ 168.7 m to £ 175.6 m—in the same week. The' April 3 figure is, however, still £B.6m below the 1956 figure for that date.
