EASTER MOTOR RACING
Connaughts Win At Goodwood (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, April 22. British Connaughts, driven by Stanley Lewis-Evans and Jack Fairman, finished first and second in the Richmond motor race for Formula I cars at Goodwood today. Lewis-Evans covered the 32 laps, totalling 122 kilometres, in 50min 48.8 sec for an average speed of 145.90 kilometres an hour. Fairman had a time of 51min 13.2 sec and Ron FloCkart, who was third in a B.R.M. recorded 51min 33sec. Stirling Moss, the British champion, retired during the thirteenth lap when his Vanwall developed throttle trouble. On the Continent today, Jean Behra, of France, won the Pau Grand Prix in a Maserati. Behra covered the 110 laps totalling 188 J miles in 3hr Omin 13.7 sec for an average speed of 63.19 miles an hour. Another works Maserati, driven by Harry Schell, of the United States was second in 3hr Omin 46sec. A British Connaught, with Ivor Bueb, of Cheltenham, at the wheel, was third in 3hr Imin 57.45ec. In Surrey this afternoon, a racing driver was killed and four spectators injured at a Sports Trophy race when a Cooper car overturned and somersaulted off the track. The driver, Dr. S. Marks, of Golders Green, London, aged 35, was lying second in the third lap of the race when his car hurtled off the circuit. He was flung into a fence and killed.
