QUEENSLAND’S PREMIER
Cabinet Vote Of Confidence (N.Z. Press (Rec. 10 p.m.) BRISBANE, April 23. The Queensland Premier (Mr Vincent Gair) today won the first round in his fight against expulsion by the Labour Party’s Queensland central executivewhen the State Cabinet passed a motion of confidence in him. He smiled broadly as he came from the Cabinet room this afternoon. “I am quite happy,” he said. Labour observers confirmed the vote of confidence although - ho official announcement was made. Last Thursday the full Queensland central executive, by 35 votes to 27, called on Mr Gair to show cause tomorrow why he should not be expelled from the party. Mr Gair defied a direction that he introduce legislation providing three weeks’ annual leave for all State workers at the last Parliamentary session. Mr Gair hopes to win more support tonight when a special Labour caucus Has been called to deal with “very important matters.”
