Ocean Yacht Race

(Hee. 11 p.m.) _ BRISBANE, April 23. The New Zealand yacht Christina has withdrawn from the Brisbane to Gladstone race and is proceeding to Gladstone under engine power. The Christina was well back at the time she withdrew. Light winds made the race the slowest on record. The first yacht to cross the finishing line, the 44ft Bermudan sloop Alvis, which came in at 9.45 a.m. today, took 95hr 9min for the 307-mile journey. The 35ft Sydney-built yacht Nocturne was about 100 yards behind her. ~ The 37ft staysail schooner Blue Nose was tonight declared provisional winner of the race on handicap. She reached Gladstone just before 2 p.m. today to take the race from Moonbi and Nocturne.

The final result depends on whether the 28ft Bermudan sloop Cimba can finish early tomorrow. Tonight the Cimba was well outside Gladstone and conditions were dead calm, giving her littlechance’of upsetting the placings.

Eisenhower's Health.— President Eisenhower's stubborn cough, which developed in January, had virtually cleared up after a few days of golf in the warm Georgia sun, the White House Press Secretary, Mr James Hagerty, said today.—Augusta, April 22.
