NEW ROLE FOR N.Z. NAVY TUG

(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) AUCKLAND, April 23. The 40-ton Navy tug Hipi is to take on a new role. She has been bought by an Auckland launchowning firm, Parry Brothers, and will be used for towing sand and shingle barges. At present, the grey-painted Hipi is lying at Western Viaduct, The Hipi was built in 1909 by

the Auckland firm of Charles Bailey and Son. Her first owners were the Gisborne Lightering Company, which used her for taking cargoes to ships in the roadstead.
