EASTER ROAD DEATHS
(New Zealand Press Association WELLINGTON, April 22.
Easter road deaths up to tonight were seven. The Easter, 1956, total Was six.
The Traffic Superintendent of the Transport Department (Mr C. A. J. Peterson) tonight confirmed his earlier reports of general good driving throughout the country over Easter, but a few motorists had been observed taking too many chances in heavy traffic, he said. A frequent fault at the long week-end was careless parking on highways. Cars were parked to the danger of other traffic when they could have been left safely off the road a few yards ahead. There were four Easter road deaths in 1955, seven in 1954, eight in 1953, and nine in 1952. Two of those who died this Easter were motor-cyclists, two were car passengers, one a motorcar driver, one was a cyclist and the other a pedstrian.
