The track was easy.— There was a good attendance, and the totalisator handled £59,028. compared with £664522 10s on the second day last year, a decrease of £7194 10s. The total for the meeting was £124,375, a decrease uf £14,047 10s on last year’s total of £138,402. The winning double, Bright Boy and Nuffield, paid £3l 8s for £l. Stewards Accept Explanation
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Ree. 7.30 p.m.) SYDNEY. April » An explanation by the connexion! of the New Zealand-owned rtayer. Llanisfair, on the horse’s running « Warwick Farm on April 13 and •» Randwick on Saturday was acceptea by the AJ.C. stewards at a resumed inquiry at Randwick today. Before the running of the nrst race today, the stewards announced their decision, and removed douol that the solidly-backed Llanisfair would start in the Sydney Cup. Llanisfair overnight became favourite for the big race, and punterfi were eager to know the outcome o* the stewards’ inquiry. After being easily beaten in tn® Warwick Autumn Handicap at Warwick Farm on April 13, the horse won the Tocal Handicap at Randwick on Saturday by eight lengths. At today’s inquiry, Neil Clarence Smith, brother of the trainer of th® horse, T. J. Smith, gave evidence that he had £2OO at odds of 6 to 4 for his brother at the Warwick Farm meeting. He had put a similar amount on for his brother when the horse won on Saturday. Smith told the chairman of stewards (Mr R. J. Bartley) that the day Llanisfair lost he also lost. Soon after the inquiry, the stewards told the horse's connexions that the betting transactions had been checked, and they were satisfied with the explanation given.
