Wellington School Second “The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, April 22. New Zealand has maintained its reputation for producing some of the British Empire’s best schoolboy marksmen by filling second place in the Earl Roberts Imperial Cadet Trophy competition. St. Patrick’s College, Silverstream, has been placed runner-up to Ecole Superieure St. Stanislaus Cadet Corps, of Montreal, Canada, for 1956. There were 61 entries. New Zealand entered six teams. Shooting was conducted with .303 riffes over 500 yards (deliberate), 500 to 100 yards (fire and movement), 200 yards (rapid) and 200 yards (snap). St. Patrick’s scored 310 points against the Montreal team’s 317. Four of the New Zealand teams finished in the first 10 placings and the two others within the first 23. The New Zealand placings were as follows: St. Patrick’s College, Silverstream, 2nd; Whangarei High School, 4th; Christ’s College, Bth; Hamilton Technical, 10th; St. Andrew’s. College, Christchurch, 15th; St. Augustine's College. Wanganui, 23rd. New Zealand won the trophy in 1948, when the Marton District High School took the honours. The Dominion has been placed second on two other occasions since 1950 (Christ’s College and Marlborough Boys’ High School), but the best performance recorded in 1955 was fifth (St. Patrick’s, Sil verstream).
