PIRATES BEAT CHRISTCHURCH
"The Press’* Special Service DUNEDIN, April 22. The Pirates A Rugby team was much too strong for Christchurch in the final of the Easter tournament which ended at Dunedin today. It won the main game by 29 points to 6, and was never in danger of defeat. In the earlier match. Pirates B beat Wellington by 18 points to 5. The Christchurch forwards provided fairly strong opposition for most of the main match, but the backs were not in the same class as Pirates. One exception was the Christchurch full-back, C. Spiers, who handled and kicked well throughout.
Timaru Celtic Wins Catholic Tourney (New Zealand Press Association) NELSON, April 22. Timaru Celtic won the South Island Catholic Club’s annual Rugby tournament for the second successive season when they beat Hokitika St. Mary’s in the final, played this afternoon. Results:—Timaru Celtic 10 beat Hokitika St. Mary’s 3; Blenheim Marist 5 beat Christchurch Marist 3; Nelson Celtic 8 beat Gore St. Mary’s 6.
