CANTERBURY WINS YACHTING

DUNEDIN, April 22. The inter-university Idlealongclass yachting competition ended this afternoon, with Canterbury University College taking the honours for the series of four races. The races were sailed on the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Club’s boat harbour, and the results of the competition were:— Canterbury University College, 300 points, 1; Victoria University College, 283, 2; Otago University, 223.34, 3; Auckland University College, 180, 4. The first race, which was marred by the withdrawal of the Otago University and Auckland yachts because of. faulty equipment, and in which their protest was upheld, was sailed this afternoon. Auckland University College withdrew because of an infringement of the rules. Results:— Race 3.—Koneke (Canterbury), Ihr 32min 3sec, 1; Legend (Victoria), lhr 35min 29sec, 2; Amina (Otago), lhr 40min 6sec, 3; Spray (Auckland), lhr 42min 52sec, 4. Race 4.—Amina (Victoria), lhr 14min 7sec, 1; Spray (Otago), lhr 16min 23sec, 2; Legend (Canterbury), lhr 17min 31sec, 3; Koneke (Auckland), lhr 18min 4sec, 4. Race 1 (re-sailed).—Amina (Canterbury), lhr 17min 30sec, 1; Koneke (Otago), lhr 18min 17sec, 2; Spray (Victoria), lhr 29min 55sec, 3; Legend (Auckland), withdrew. OFFICERS ELECTED (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, April 22. The council of the New Zealand University Students’ Association, held in conjunction with the Easter tournament, elected the following resident executive officers:—President, Mr J. D. Dalgety; vice-presidents, Messrs B. V. Galvin and W. Iles; secretary, Miss G. Cooper; treasurer, Mr P. Stannard; sports officer, Mr A. Robinson; public relations officer, Mr N. Turner.
