MAN STRUCK BY CAR
Accident After Collision
A motorist, who escaped injury when his car and another car collided about midnight on Saturday, was injured soon afterwards when he was struck by a passing car which failed to stop.
The man, William John Hamilton, of 34 Marsden street, Greymouth, was involved in a collision with a car driven by Lillian Charlton, of 8 Mansfield avenue. Christchurch, at the intersection of Manchester and Gloucester streets. Neither driver was injured. About 15 minutes later, Mr Hamilton was sweeping up broken glass strewn across the intersection when a late pre-war English car painted green struck him, causing head and leg injuries. The car continued along Manchester street.
Mr Hamilton’s injuries were not serious, and after receiving treatment he went home.
The police are anxious to interview the driver of the car which struck Mr Hamilton.
Youth Breaks Leg On Ruapehu
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 21. An 18-year-old farmhand, Richard Stevens, of Palmerston North, broke his leg when he fell over a bluff by the waterfall at Mount Ruapehu thL afternoon He was admitted to Taumarunui Hospital.
MAN DROWNED IN TAIERI RIVER
(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, April 21. William Melvin, aged 20, was drowned in the Taieri river near Henley when he overbalanced and fell from a fishing boat on Saturday afternoon. Melvin was from Motueka Valley, Invercargill, where he was employed as a fencer. He was married. * Three launches from Taieri Mouth, including the boat owned by lan Fraser, from which Melvin fell, together with thrfee or four smaller outboard motorboats, searched the river without success. The river was dragged today.
