Four Minor Fires
Four minor fires occurred during the week-end. A unit from Woolston attended an oven fire in a house occupied by Mabel Marriott at 11 Whittington avenue at 11.44 a.m. on Saturday. Four hours later units from New Brighton and the Central station were called to a house occupied by Mr N. Bailes at 69 Beatty street, where a radio had caught fire. The transformer of the radio was damaged. A road-making machine being used by British Pavements, Ltd., in Colombo street caught fire because of a short circuit in the battery cable on Saturday evening. Two units from the Central station attended the fire at 8.13 p.m. There was no damage. Slight damage was done to a building and to two bales of wool when a fire began in the Allerton Woolscouring Company’s building in Rutherford street, Woolston, a 4 9.30 p.m. on Saturday. Units from Woolston and the Central station attended. }
