“Red Cross members who worked at the headquarters of the North Canterbury centre during the last war will have been deeply grieved when they heard of the death of Miss Jane Donnelly,” says a report from a meeting of the centre. “For many years she worked indefatigably for the Red Cross, acting as secretary for the South Island V.A.D. Council, V.A.D. committee and the Prisoner - of - War Departmenx After her retirement, Miss Donnelly could always be relied on to assist the Red Cross in any emergency or appeal, and her work was done with the utmost efficiency and skill. Those who were privileged to know her as a friend always enjoyed her understanding, her sense of justice, and her never-failing wit. These same friends will always cherish memories of her warm personality and miss her ready response to all requests for help with the service of the Red Cross,” says the report.
