STARTER RETIRES.—Mr A. J. Hastings (left), who for about 30 years has been starter for the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club, receiving a cheque from the president of the club (Mr W. M. Ollivier) at Addington on Saturday. Mr Hastings resigned edrlier in the season, and this took effect on the final day of the club’s Easter meeting.
