Christchurch Club Wins Shield (New Zealand Press Association) TIMARU, April 21. The Central Club, Christchurch, won the Hayward Shield for aggregate points at the Federated Catholic Clubs and Societies of New Zealand annual conference and competitions held in Timaru at the week-end. Central gained 12 points, Sacred Heart (Timaru) 9J points, and St Bernadette’s (Dunedin 3 8 points. Detailed results:— Debate.—Central Club (N. P. Williamson and G. T. Mahon) 1; Marist (Invercargill), 2; St. Bernadette ’i (Dunedin), 3. Best speaker: Miss W. O’Brien (Marist). Oratory.—Miss P. Clarkson (Riccarton Club A) 1, D. Darby (Central Club) 2, Miss R. Minehan (Sacred Heart, Timaru) and Miss E. Scully (Marist, Invercargill) (equal) 3. Elocution.—Miss J. Fauks (Sacred Heart, Timaru) 1, Miss M. Bums (Newman Society, Christchurch) 2, Miss K. McHugh (Central Club) 3. Religious Questions.—N. Williamson (Central' Club) 1, Miss K. O’Connor (St. Bernadette’s) 2, Miss M. Gibbs (St. Joseph’s, Dunedin) 3. Impromptu Speech.—Miss P.
