AD HOC BOARDS’ ELECTIONS
POSTPONEMENT UNTIL MAY 21
The elections of the Christchurch Drainage and Transport Boards have been postponed from November until May 21, 1955. Both boards yesterday received a telegram from Mr K. J. Holyoake, acting for the Minister of Internal Affairs, which said: “I am now able to advise that the Government has decided to introduce legislation at an early date postponing the general elections of your board to the third Saturday in May, 1955.’’ when both boards discussed the coincidence of the Parliamentary election with their own during a conference with other local authorities concerned. the Christchurch representatives favoured holding the polls for the ad hoc. bodies a month before the General Election. Yesterday spokesmen for both boards said they could only assume that the Government had decided to change the time of these local body elections by six months so that there would be no future interference from General Elections.
