VICEREGAL

The Governor-General (Sir Willoughby Norrie) and Lady Norrie will arrive by air at noon today for a tourday visit to Christchurch, and will stay at the Clarendon Hotel. They will visit “Holly Lea” at 2.45 p.m. today. Sir Willoughby Norrie will attend the Christchurch Tin Hat Club’s tattoo this evening, and Lady Norrie will visit the headquarters of the North Canterbury Centre of the Red Cross Society. Tomorrow morning they will attend matins at St. Mary’s Church, Merivale. On Monday morning their Excellencles will inspect St. George’s Hospital, and afterwards visit the McDougall Art Gallery at 11.45 a.m. They will be guests of honour at a 5 o’clock party to be held by the Christchurch branches of the combined Empire societies, and at 7.30 p.m. Sir Willoughby Norrie will visit H.M.N.Z.S Pegasus, the headquarters of the Canterbury division of the Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve. Their Excellencies will leave by air on Tuesday morning.

Squadron Leader G. W. Martin. Deputy Director of Recruiting at Royal New Zealand Air Force Headquarters in Wellington, has been appointed senior administrative officer at the R.N.Z.A.F. station at Taieri from September 14. (P.A.)

Delegates to the Dominion conference of Federated Farmers in Wellington yesterday paid tribute to. two of the federation’s life members, Messrs T. Currie, of Brunswick, Wanganui, and T. C. Brash, of Christchurch. Mr Brash was formerly a co-opted member of the Dominion council. The president (Mr J. Andrew) praised his work in the interests of farmers for many years. Mr Brash said he was nearly 80. and would not attend any more Dominion conferences of the federation.—(P. A.)

Mr G. F. Soper, who has been on the clerical staff of the Supreme Court in Christchurch for the last five years, has been transferred on promotion to the staff of the Magistrate’s Court in Lower Hutt.

Mr J. T. Young has been appointed a member of the Papanul Domain Board according to a notice in the Gazette. He replaces the late Mr F. Hansen.

Mr W. A. Steele has been appointed a member of the Rangiora Domain Board in place of Mr W. Smith, who has died.

Mr J. F. Stratton has been appointed a member of the Leithfield Domain Board, replacing Mr T. Casserley, who has resigned.
