MISS EVIE HAYES

COLOURFUL WARDROBE IN “CALL ME MADAM” In “Cail Me Madam.” the American musical production that opened its Christchurch season at the Theatre Royal last evening, the leading lady. Miss Evie Hayes, wears some very smart, skilfully cut, and colourful clothes.

As Mrs Sally Adams, American Ambassador to the mythical European State of Uchtenburg. she has nine changes, some of them made in what can only be described as a “split second.”

Miss Hayes’s wardrobe comprises suits and ensembles, worn with sophisticated hats and chic accessories, filmy ballerina length frocks of nylon net, a fitting black silk velvet and taffeta frock fully flared from below tte knees, and a filmy negligee of pale pink nylon mounted on satin of a deeper shade. Perhaps the most outstanding frocks worn by Miss Hayes were the white jersey dinner gown made on slim lines and featuring a flying panel, and the ice-green brocaded lame gown worn with a headdress of white ostrich plumes in the presentation scene. Throughout the whole production the contrasts in colour of the costumes and the use of sequins and bead embroidery aaded richness, brilliance, and beauty.
