SUSPENSION OF PLAYER
ENGLISHMAN PLAYS AGAINST MAORIS (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) t SYDNEY. July 22. The New South Wales Rugby League judiciary committee suspended the English player Ray Price, but he was put in the side which played Auckland Maoris yesterday. The secretary of the New South Wales Rugby League (Mr Harold Matthews) refused to comment on the replaying of Price.
The committee suspended Price until August 1, after he had been sent off in the England-New South Wales match on July 10. Mr Matthews said: “Ask the New Zealand Rugfoy League why it allowed Price to play. Price is suspended until August 1, and that is all I know.”
Mr Matthews said that the suspension of a Rugby League player in any country automatically operated throughout the world.
The judiciary committee chairman (Mr Arthur Justice) said: “News of Price playing hag completely bewildered me. England is setting a precedent in allowing Price to play. As far as I am concerned he cannot play until August 1, but apparently we have no say in the matter.”
