LOCKE WINS IN YORKSHIRE

The South African golfer, Bobby Locke, who led the field from the opening round, won the 72-hole stroke event of the Swallow, Harrogate, 2000 guineas tournament with an aggregate of 276 at Oakdale, Yorkshire, today. After a magnificent third round of 66 in the morning, he scored 69 in the afternoon to finish four strokes ahead of Bill Shankland, the 47-year-old Australianborn professional of Pottersbar. Shankland’s rounds were 67 and 69.

The 16 top scorers qualified for the match play event to be played in the next two days. They are: Locke, 276; Shankland. 280: D. J. Rees. 284; A. Lees and R. W. Horne, 285; E. Lester, 286; J. R. M. Jacobs, 287; J. Fallon and A. Cerda. 288; C. O’Connor, F. Bullock, and J. Adams, 289; J. Panton and T. B. Halliburton, 290; S. L. King, 291; K. Redford, 292.
