COUNTRY RUGBY REPRESENTATION
Sir,—Patrons who saw the Town v. Country match this year probably left Lancaster Park with feelings that Country had 50 per cent., at least, of the game. Judging by the small number of Country players selected for training (five out of 24) the selectors do not agree with the above observation. Some years ago the Country team defeated Town on two consecutive years; and, as a result of the latter game, seven Country players were selected for representative honours (the best ever). All these Country players were relegated to the side-line before the end of the season with the exception of Gerry Thompson: and they were not even considered good enough for Canterbury B honours. I sincerely trust that this year’s selection will not be a matter of history repeating itself. Suggestion—return match Town v. Country before the Shield match against Southland.—Yours, etc., V. CRAW. Chorlton, July ,22. 1954.
