TUNNEL ROAD FUNDS
MOTOR UNION GRANTS £5O The South Island Motor Union is to give £5O to the Tunnel Road Promotion Committee to help it to meet its expenses. The executive committee of the union, which made this decision last evening, will also invite its affiliated associations to consider making contributions. , “I think this is for the benefit of the whole of the South Island,” said Mr G. T. Anderson, of Dunedin, moving that the grant to made. “I think it is a national matter,” said the president (Mr P. W. Breen). “While I am 100 per cent, behind the tunnel road and I would be prepared to make a personal donation of £5, I don’t think this union should make a donation out of its funds,” said Mr I. V. Wilson. “I think the proposal should be referred to associations. I am doubtful if the union would be doing the right thing in making this grant.” Members, who referred to the union’s rules, said it was within its powers to take such action in the interests of motoring.
