PROMPT ACTION ON REMIT

MINISTER REPLIES BY TELEGRAM

A prompt reply has been given to a remit passed on Thursday by the New Zealand Ex-prisoners of War Association at its annual conference. A telegram from the Minister of Defence (Mr T. L. Macdonald) was received yesterday afternoon saying that the Minister had read in the morning’s paper a report of a resolution of the conference asking that Army personal medical files be made available to recognised medical practitioners. “To clarify the position,” the Minister said, “I can state that an ex-service-man’s medical documents or information from them are made available to the doctor treating an ex-serviceman if the ex-serviceman concerned gives his consent.”

The conference sent a telegram in reply thanking the Minister for the prompt attention he had given to the matter.
