STOCK EXCHANGES A SELLERS’ DAY IN CHRISTCHURCH The law of supply and demand continued to operate against buyers in quieter trading on the Christchurch Stock exchange yesterday. Several price gains were recorded in the sales made and there were no losses. Banks, breweries, and gas were the most buoyant sections on the day.
A. and N.Z. Banks rose sharply to sales at 40s, with more wanted at 39s 6d on a market bare of sellers. E.. S.» and A. Bank and National of New Zealand were also keenly sought at improved prices. Ballins Breweries rose to sales at 28s 3d, and at the end of the day buying offers of 28s Id were countered by sellers at 28s 6d. New Zealands were sought at the dearer price of 45s 9d, but sellers kept off the market.
Gas issues were again accorded solid buying support. Among the loan and agencies Dalgety’s B shares had business and buyers at the firm price of 11s 6d, and the A shares had steady bids of Ils
Woolworths, Ltd., rights, were actively traded in small parcels at the improved price of 10s 7d, with more on offer at this price at the close, but buyers were Id away. The company’s shares rose to sales and buyers at 15s 6d, with further sellers at 15s 9d. There were again no sellers for McKenzies, although buyers advanced their offers to 20s 3d. Coles were quoted wide with steady buyers at 15s 6d and sellers at 16s.
There was keen inquiry for Broken Hills 3d up at 36s 9d, and no sellers, and the same situation applied to Electro. Zinc ordinaries, buyers for which advanced their offers to 26s lOd. DOMINION TRANSACTIONS . CHRISTCHURCH Sales on ’Change, Listed
