LABOUR DISPUTE AT ROXBURGH
COMMITTEE TO SEEK SETTLEMENT (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, July 7. A disputes committee will meet at the Roxburgh hydro-electric project tomorrow to discuss a dispute over the alleged dismissal of three contract workers from Britain. A stop-work meeting of about 700 men working on the project was held yesterday to discuss the position. The meeting claimed that the men had been dismissed without sufficient cause. A representative of the contractors said today that the dispute had been referred to the Labour Department at Dunedin, as provided in the agreement between the contractors and the workers* union. The department has appointed Mr S. W. Armstrong to sit as the independent chairman of the disputes committee. The parties have agreed to accept the ruling of the committee. A spokesman for the contractors said today that work went on as usual on I the project today.
