ASHBURTON PUBLIC CONVENIENCES
Sir—As a resident of Ashburton county for approximately 30 years, Ashburton being my town of business, I am amazed that the powers that be cannot offer better public conveniences than the one in East street. With a population Qf approximately 8000 in Ashburton town, and with the bus traffic increasing yearly, persons are still compelled to use the old building mentioned above. In wet weather you need an oilskin coat on, as part of the old building has no roof. In my opinion the time has not only arrived, but passed years ago, when Ashburton should have Bad more modern and new conveniences.—Yours, etc, R. H. MIDDLEMISS.
June 30, 1954. [“The council has placed a sum of money for improvements to the conveniences on its estimates this year, said the Ashburton Town Clerk (Mr H. C. Childs) in the reply to this letter.] C.
