N.Z. HORSE ALLOWED TO KEEP NAME
(N.Z.P.A.—Reuter—Copyright) SYDNEY, July 6. The Australian Jockey Club will allow a horse which recently arrived from New Zealand to keep its name. Fair Lap. Many observers thought there would be a change, because the name was similar to Phar Lap. . An A.J.C. official said yesterday: "If it had been an Australian horse we probably would not have granted the name Fair Lap. We keep a list of great racehorses whose names will never be given out again. Phar Lap was one of those horses, so no horse of that name will ever again grace the Australian turf. In Fair Lap’s case, he got his name m New Zealand, which is out ofc- our control.”
_ Fair'Lap I s a two-year-old bay colt by Fairs Fair from Polotown. A New Zealander, Mr J. G. Bailey, owns him.
