Import Duty Cut In West Germany
(NJ2. Press Association—Copyright) BONN, July 5. The West German Government today sent to the Bundesrat (Upper House) for approval, a decree lowering the import duties on 338 items, mainly technical goods, from all foreign countries. Most of the reductions are of between a fifth and a third of the present level. The Government is working out a bill on tariff reduction which will bring the total number of items on which the duty is to be reduced to more than 750. In a statement accompanying today’s decree, the Government said that the tariff reductions had been made necessary by the extreme creditor position in which West Germany finds.her§elf in the European Payments Union. It was hoped that tariff reductions would result m increased imports.
