LUNG CANCER AND SMOKING
“NO SATISFACTORY CONNEXION ” WASHINGTON, April 30. The director of the American National Cancer Institute (Dr. John Heller) has said that no connexion between heavy smoking and lung cancer had been established “to our satisfaction.” He made the statement in recent testimony before the House of Representatives Appropriations Sub-com-mittee. Dr. Heller said lung cancer had increased several fold among men in the last 25 to 30 years, but there had been no similar increase among women, even among heavy smokers.
