MOUNTPARK DISPUTE
Sir,—Since the publication of the emergency disputes committee’s finding on the Mountpark dispute, one has looked in vain in your editorial and correspondence columns for some comment thereon by the general public. In view of the prominent publicity given previously to all phases of the dispute, and of the grave, far-reaching issues involved, such apparent indifference is surprising. The finding itself, backed by the authority of the Chief Justice, demands and deserves the most careful consideration of all thoughtful citizens, as well as of industrial employers and employees. It is a splendid vindication of the arbitration method as an eminently satisfactory means of solving industrial disputes. It is also a justification of the firm, patient, and conciliatory policy adopted by the Government in seeking a reasonable and fair solution of our highly complex industrial and social problems.—Yours, etcC, A.L. August 23, 1948.
