CUSTOMS RETURNS CHRISTCHURCH FIGURES Revenue collected by the Customs De- - partment in Christchurch during June amounted to £333,446, compared with £289,219 for the corresponding month last year. For the first quarter of the financial year the amount collected was £1,116.506, compared with £908,587 for the first three months last year. The total for June is made up as follows, the figures for June. 1945. being given in parenthesis: Customs duties, £126,557 (£85.238); beer duty, £34.317 (£36.723); petrol duty, £21,177 (£15,315); tyre duty. £209 (nil); sales tax, £148,758 (£750,695); light dues. £592 (£877); export levies: wool, £1674 (£251); hides, £lOl (£66); miscellaneous, £6l (£54). For the first three months of the financial year, the figures, with those for last year in parenthesis, are:—customs duties, £357,892 (£268,932); beer duty. £131,352 (£129,216); petrol duty, £06.7Q2 (£48.099); tyre duty, £284 (nil); sales tax. £552,305 (£457.841); light dues. £1754 (£1695); export levies: wool, £5158 (£719); hides. £790 (£1234); miscellaneous, £269 (£779). Customs revenue in Auckland in June totalled £898,414, an increase of £156,773 over the figure for June last year. Increases were shown in all items except sales tax, the greatest relative increase being in tyre duty. In June thfe duty totalled £7olrcompared with £1 last June, and brought the total for the six-monthly period to £7584, compared with £64 for the corresponding period in 1945. Over all, the total for the first six months was £5,727.875, an Increase of £1,251,291. COMPANY NEWS Korma the offer of 125,000 5 per cent, cumulative preference shares in Konma Textiles (N.Z.), Ltd., the directors announce that, before the closing of the list on Monday, applications were received from nearly 4000 persons for more than 1,000.000 shares. Difficulties , of allotment in these circumstances are being met, as far as practicable, by the allotment pro rata to applicants for 250 shares and over with a maximum allotment of 500 shares. Applicants for shares in the 50 to 200 group will be balloted for on the basis of an allotment of 50 shares to everv successful applicant.— (P.S.S.) Peters Ice Cream.—Peters Ice Cream Company (N.Z ), Ltd!, have reported a net profit of £3411 for the year ended April 30. against £2551 the previous year.
