POSITION OF THE HON. P. C. WEBB
NOT INCLUDED IN COMMITTEES (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, June 28. An indication that the Minister of Mines and Labour (the Hon. P. C. Webb) may not be able to resume his Ministerial duties, as was expected some weeks ago, has been given by the election of the Labour Bills and Goldfields and Mines Committees of the House of Representatives. Mr Webb’s name has not been included on these committees, but that of the ActingMinister (the Hon. J. O’Brien) has. These committees are appointed by motions of the House, of which notice has to be given. Notice was given by Mr O’Brien, in the name of Mr Webb, but when the motions were called from the order paper, they were moved by Mr O’Brien and his name was included as a member of the committees instead of that of Mr Webb. It is almost an invariable rule that the Minister of Labour is a member of the Labour Bills Committee, and the Minister of Mines a member of the Goldfields and Mines Committee.
