U.S. LOANS TO POLAND
RESTORATION OF CREDIT
CENSORSHIP QUESTION CLARIFIED
<Bec. 9 p.m.) WASHINGTON, June 26. The State Department announced the restoration of the 50,000,000-doliar credit to Poland. The department explained that the question concerning censorship had been satisfactorily clarified, and Poland had given assurances to the United States Embassy in Warsaw indicating that the text of Poland’s economic agreements will be furnished to the United States Government. Furthermore, Poland had published the exchange of Notes setting forth what the Polish Government had promised. The Associated Press comments that this action presumably clears the way for the final signing of the contract between Poland and the ExportImport Bank for an additional 40.000,000-dollar loan.
Last week the Acting-Secretary of State (Mr Dean Acheson) announced that the United States was considering lifting the ’ ban on the loan of 90.000,000 dollars to Poland. He said the stumbling block was the question whether Poland had disclosed to America all the details of its trade agreements with other nations. The United States cancelled the loan when Poland failed to carry out its terms, including publication of the text of the credit agreement in the Polish press, and imposed a censorship on foreign press dispatches. Poland also failed to furnish adequate information to the United States regarding her trade agreements with Russia and other countries-
