MAUI POMARE DISPUTE
NO RESPONSE TO CALL FOR CREW
<P.A.) AUCKLAND, June 27. There was no response to a call for a crew for the deck and engine room departments of the Government motorvessel Maui Pomare at Auckland today. On Wednesday, 24 members of both departments walked off the ship after the dismissal of two seamen, and refused to return until they had been reinstated.
A serious view is being taken of the incident by the authorities, and a conference will be held at Auckland to. morrow at which the Government Departments concerned, Including an Island Territories representative, will meet the Seamen’s Union. Hopes are held that the conference will find a way A out of the deadlock. In the meantime the Maui Pomare. Which IS loading for the Cook Islands has been unofficially declared "black ’’ Cargo work is continuing normally but rain has caused delays, and the departure ot the vessel for Rarotonga has been postponed until Monday.
