ELASTIC

Sir, —I should like to know if there is such a thing as elastic in the country, because every time I inquire at the shops I get the. same answer, “Sorry.” Since the shortage of rubber about four years ago I have had three yards of elastic, and being a mother with young children, one of whom is crawling on the floor, I am desperately in need of it. Surely there should be some form of rationing it so that mothers of young children are able to obtain it Adults can manage without it, but small children just can’t. There must be numerous mothers in the same predicament as myself; so surely something could be done to relieve the situation.—Yours, etc., DESPERATE. June 25, 1946.
