FIRES
SEVERAL CALLS RECEIVED YESTERDAY Several minor outbreaks of fire were dealt with by.the Central Fire Brigade yesterday. The first call, received at 5.31 a.m" was to a house at 730 Ferry road, occupied by Mr Malcolm Boyd. The fire broke out in the rear of the house, and had obtained a good hold by the time the call was received. The damage done was extensive. At 12.19 p.m. the brigade answered a call to a house at 25 Swanns road, occupied by Mr James O’Connor ana owned by Mr Alan Wilson. Clothing airing in front of a fire had been set alight by a spark. Slight damage was done to the clothing and to a mantelpiece. v A fire in a tram-car, believed to have been caused by the motor burning out, called the brigade to the cor-
ner of Papanui and Holly roads at 7.25 p.m. The fire was extinguished without difficulty. Shortly before 9 p.m. the brigade extinguished a fire in the back seat of a motor-car in Manchester street, near Cashel street. The fire is believed to have been caused by a lighted cigarette being dropped on the seat of the car. e
