PRESENTATION AT SUMNER

MR AND MRS J. F. MENZIES HONOURED

Mr and Mrs J. F. Menzies were recently entertained at an official farewell in Sumner, where Mr Menzies has been town clerk for more than 18 years. On behalf of residents of Sumner, Mrs T. H. McCombs presented Mrs Menzies with a pair of silver entree dishes. Cr. J. E. Tait, for many years a councillor and Mayor of Sumner, presented Mr Menzies with a wallet of notes as a token of esteem and appreciation. Mr M. E. Lyons (Deputy-Mayor of Christchurch), Mr H. S. Feast (Town Clerk of Christchurch), Mr J. S. Barr (representing the Tramway Board), Mr Jones (Drainage Board), Mr Machin (chairman of the North Canterbury Catchment Board), and Mr E. Somers (City Engineer) also spoke of Mr Menzies’s services to Sumner and the community generally. Mr G; F. Allen (chairman of the Sumner Association) presided during the first part of the gathering, and Cr. W. J. Duff was chairman later. The evening’s programme included items by "liss M. Edmonds, Mrs F. Nelson Kerr, Messrs James Williamson J E. Mason, and G. Brown, and Master Evan Sherrard.
