Mr J. H. Kemnitz who has been appointed secretary of British Commonwealth . Pacific Airlines, Ltd., which will operate Pacific air services between Australia, New Zealand, and North. America, was born and educated in Dunedin and served with the New Zealand forces overseas.—Sydney, June 25.
Mr Cyril Dugdale has been appointed representative of Waimate County on the Oamaru Harbour Board, in place of Mr A W. Barnett, who has resigned. Dr. J. C. Bradshaw, organist and choirmaster at the Christchurch Cathedral from 1907 to 1937, was honoured recently by membets of the Christchurch Cathedral Ex-Choris-ters’ Club, who organised a surprise party to his home on his seventieth birthday. Entertainment was provided by a musical section of the club in part songs, by the Rev. W. W. Robinson (vocal), and Mr C. Cook (violin). Mr E. R. Field-Dodgson was the accompanist. A decorated cake, a cheque, and a framed photograph pf the club members were presented to Dr Bradshaw.
Members of the Canterbury Fire and Accident Underwriters’ Association recently hade farewell to Mr Percy White-Parsons, who will retire a* the end of this month from the Royal Exchange Assurance Corporation. Mr White-Parsons served 32 years with the corporation and for the last 10 years has been manager ofthe Canterbury and Westland branch. He was presented with a travelling bag by the president of the association (Mr R. D. Cargill) Mr E. D. MeGrathj of Wellington, will succeed Mr White-Parsons as manager in Christchurch. Mr A. J. Empson was elected president of the Canterbury Licensed Vie* tuallers' Association at the annua] meeting of the association, yesterday. He will succeed Mr J. M. McKenzie, who has retired after H years in office. Messrs A. Barrett and L. Marsden were elected vice-presi-dents.
Mr A. W» Copland, of Ashburton, is now working with Mr J A. Rank’s organisation, at Pinewood Studios, says the special correspondent of the New Zealand Press Association in London. He will study each department of the film industry before he returns to New Zealand in about three years. Mr Copland, who is a son of Mr and Mrs A. A. Copland of Ashburton. is 25 years old, He was educated at the Ashburton Technical High School and later joined the State Housing Department in Wellington Before enlisting in the Air Force in 1940 he took motion pictures in Weilington. In 1941 Mr Copland went overseas as a fighter pilot and served in Canada. Great Britain, the Middle East, and India, returning to New Zealand in 1945 with'the rank of fligh + lieutenant, He left for England last October.
