SUCCESSFUL HARE DRIVES
As a result of hare drives held at Te Pirita, Mead, and Dunsandel, 891 hares have been sent to the freezing works for dispatch to Britain, reported the postmaster at Rakaia (Mr L. Simmonds) to the Christchurch Famine Emergency Committee on Wednesday. It is estimated that this number represents about two tons of hare meat. The Christchurch committee reported that it was anxious that district committees be set up in all areas where such organisations are not yet in action. A circular letter has been sent to the presidents of all Red Cross subcentres asking them to take the lead in establishing committees where necessary- In many districts the subcentres are already giving valuable assistance to the district famine emergency committees.
A shipment of 300 cases were forwarded from the depot at King Edward Barracks yesterday. A further shipment of 400 cases has been prepared and will be-shipped this month.
