Auckland War Memorial

“No scheme for a war memorial which has not' been approved by the public is likely to produce the necessary money.” said the Mayor of Auckland (Mr J. A. C. Allum) when replying to comments made in a report by an advisory council of the Auckland Junior Chamber of Commerce. “As far as I am concerned, nothing will be done until public opinion has been sought. Before any decision can be made it is necessary to know what type of war memorial the Government is likely to subsidise, and this information is • not yet available. I have made it clear in the past that a meeting will be called as soon as the information is ready.”
