The epicentre was about 25 miles from Victoria. Buildings at Port Alberni were damaged and some families were forced to leave their homes Seattle says that a hill 300 ft high 'walked" 35ft closer to the sea at Campbell river, as a result of the earthquake. A man. aged 69, to®d 7 heart failure when Seattle’s down-town buildings swayed above him as he walked to church.
