A RANGER’S POWERS
Sir,—l thank “Ex-Ranger” for his very clear answer to my letter of May 27. I agree with him that Mr Nicoll should have answered my letter through “The Press.” It is very true that thousands of shooters are interested in this law on whether a ranger seize your gun for shooting out of season. I think in the case to which my letter of May 27 referred, the seizing of the. gun and ammunition was a bit too drastic, seeing that the young man in question admitted shooting at ducks; and I understand he was not in any way hostile the the ranger. Would Mr Nicoll say whether the ranger, Mr Orton, was appointed by the Minister of Internal Affairs or by the Acclimatisation Society, and whether this case has been reported •to the Minister?—Yours, etc., EX-MEMBER ASHBURTON ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY. June 6, 1946.
[Any person desiring information <>f this nature could obtain it by communication with him, said the sectetary of the Ashburton Acclimatisation Society (Mr J. B. Nicoll) in reply to this letter.]
